ABOUT
HUW RICHARDS PHOTOGRAPHY

As an actor, I have been involved in all stages of the casting process. Therefore, I understand the need for a headshot that captures the attention and is an honest and insightful snapshot of who you are and what you can offer.

I started Huw Richards Photography after conversations with casting directors who were complaining about the inconsistency between actors' headshots and what they looked like in real life.

I had grown tired of watching friends and colleagues pay over and above for headshots that, although aesthetically pleasing, were better suited to the front cover of a magazine, putting them at a disadvantage as soon as they entered the audition room.

The most important thing as an actor is to really think about who you are, what you look like and where that leaves you in terms of casting; accentuate your positive attributes - embrace them and use them to your advantage.

For example, I am 6ft3", bald and bearded. I know my days of playing Tiny Tim are gone (more's the pity). My look is best suited to roles that are strong, dangerous and a bit menacing, and my headshot needs to reflect this. If you are unsure what kind of role your look is best suited to, ask a friend or colleague for their opinion regarding your ideal casting.

I wanted to create headshots that are beneficial, bold and charismatic. Ultimately, though, I wanted to create headshots that are genuine - the kind of honest headshots that casting directors really want to see.

The kind of headshots that make them say:

'I know who this person is, and I want to see them'.
